June 16, 2009 – Tagged, a social networking site founded in 2004, today posted a message from Tagged CEO Greg Tseng regarding the latest set of complaint from users about the confusion surrounding the latest deceptive bulk emails sent to users' entire address books. Damage control from this latest incident is now running at full speed.

In his post Greg Tseng began by explaining Tagged's method of network-building to invite a user's contacts to join a user at the time of registration and their process of weekly "tweaking" the system. The latest complaints arose from a new process they implemented. He explained:

We recently began testing a new registration process based on our very popular Tags photo-sharing feature and we fully switched to this new version in the first week of June. The good news is more than 3 million people joined Tagged with this new process. The bad news is we received almost 2,000 complaints from people who invited all the contacts in their email address books but didn’t intend to. Some complained that our invitation confirmation language was confusing. Simply put, it was too easy for people to quickly go through the registration process and unintentionally invite all their contacts.

Apparently, once they started receiving complaints they halted the new registration process. Following that, Tagged emailed all new members who had sent invites explaining some people had unintentionally invited all their contacts. Within the email they also offered information on how to manage their contacts and how to cancel their membership.

Greg Tseng concluded with the following remark:

I am very sorry for the inconvenience and frustration that these people experienced. To those affected, I hope you will give us a second chance and join the millions of people who love Tagged and use it everyday.

We'll see if this is enough for those longtime users who have weathered this storm on numerous occasions in the past.
