Sybase, Zachman International Work Together to Establish PowerDesigner as First Zachman Certified Enterprise Tool
Sybase to Leverage Zachman Framework to Enhance PowerDesigner’s Enterprise Architecture Solution
DUBLIN, CA, May 21, 2009 -- Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), an industry leader in delivering enterprise and mobile software, today announced a working relationship with Zachman International Inc., a worldwide leader in Enterprise Architecture (EA) certification, with plans to enable incorporation of The Zachman Framework™ into future releases of PowerDesigner®, Sybase’s flagship modeling and metadata management tool for EA.
With PowerDesigner, Sybase has a solid history and leadership in Enterprise Information Architecture. This leadership will be further enhanced by incorporating The Zachman Framework, which will serve to further solidify PowerDesigner’s EA offering in the marketplace. Sybase plans to certify The Zachman Framework on PowerDesigner to support the concept and inter-relationship of primitive and implementation composite models.
“PowerDesigner for Enterprise Architecture provides a model-driven approach that facilitates the implementation of effective information and enterprise architectures,” said Dimitri Volkmann, Sr. Director, Design Tools, Sybase. “Zachman International will strengthen our position in the Enterprise Architecture market through collaboration with the worldwide expert on the subject.”
PowerDesigner is the only modeling tool that supports EA from business goals through implementation using unique Link and Sync technology, removing silos, increasing alignment and improving business agility. PowerDesigner automatically and intuitively captures the intersections between all architectural layers and perspectives of the enterprise, allowing users from all groups to clearly visualize and effectively implement fast, reliable and predictable change. The value of using PowerDesigner with The Zachman Framework is that enterprises will be able to more easily and effectively ensure the quality and integrity, and therefore the business value, of their enterprise architecture work.
“For the first time, we are seeing a vendor willing to step up to the plate and take Enterprise Architecture into the Business Design domain as it was originally intended to be, far beyond information systems and technology,” said John A. Zachman, CEO, Zachman International, Inc. “This forward thinking will allow Sybase to provide value not just to the technologists within the enterprise, but to the entire business as a whole.”
Zachman International has long been educating the community about transforming and integrating the primitive models of The Zachman Framework into implementation solutions. Many methodology experts have had a hard time envisioning that The Zachman Framework is about creating composite models for implementation from design primitives. Without integration and transformation, which allows the building of composite models, The Zachman Framework appears to them as a disjointed set of classes. Now with PowerDesigner scheduled for the first phase of certification, implementation will be attainable from a tool perspective.
Sybase will work to complete phase one of the certification process, The Zachman Certified – Enterprise Tool designation, in which cells are analyzed for capacity and robustness of integrations across each row and transformations down each column. This working relationship will allow Zachman and Sybase to assist a number of common customers to integrate PowerDesigner and The Zachman Framework to move their business ahead in stressful economic conditions.
Sybase will demonstrate this proof of concept during the Zachman Modeling Workshops in Stockholm, Sweden, in May 2009 and Denver, Colorado, in June 2009.
