Sophos Email Security Appliance Awarded March 2010 VBSpam Certification
BOSTON – March 5, 2010 – IT security and data protect firm Sophos announced today that the Sophos Email Security Appliance, a managed appliance offering protection against spam, malware and data loss, has been awarded a VBSpam certification for the detection and removal of malware and spam by Virus Bulletin, an independent journal covering the prevention.
Virus Bulletin tested 16 anti-spam products for this comparative review.
The goal of the VBSpam certification test is to help organizations looking for an anti-spam solution to see what industry anti-spam filters should be expected to do and if the tested solutions deliver or fall short of these requirements – blocking most spam with a very small percentage of false positives.
The test results for the Sophos Email Appliance received one of highest scores achieving an overall spam catch rate of 99.29%. The Sophos appliance blocked the majority of spam, including image and large spam, with very low false positive rates. The appliance eliminates more than 99% of spam with Sender Genotype Technology and SXL real-time updates.
The reviewer noted that the Sophos appliance, “Filters inbound and, optionally, outbound email for spam and malware, as well as offering data protection and email encryption. These and other policies can be configured using a simple web interface, which I found easy to work with; the various reports and trends on email traffic will no doubt help experienced administrators to fine-tune the settings so that they work even better in their organizations.”
