Opera Celebrates Indonesia's Digital Age
Opera at Festival Komputer
Oslo, Norway, June 4, 2009 -- During Indonesia’s annual celebration of digital communication in Jakarta from June 10 - 14, 2009, Opera Software will host an exhibit and demo some of the most popular devices running the Opera browser. Indonesia has long been a focal point for Opera, as mobile Web usage has increased dramatically in this region year-on-year. Currently, Indonesia remains a steady second in terms of Opera Mini usage worldwide.
Opera’s own Web evangelist, Zi Bin Cheah, will participate in a panel discussion on June 13, from 10:00 - 16:00 WIB in the Merak Room in the Jakarta Convention Center in Senayan. The focus of the discussion will be the “New Wave of Mobile Internet”. This is a particularly relevant topic for Opera in Indonesia, as multiple “State of the Mobile Web” reports issued by the company have concluded that Indonesia is leading the way for mobile Web adoption. In a region where broadband infrastructure is in its infancy, locals are turning to their mobile phones to get online.
“Just last year, Opera launched its first-ever Indonesian language version of our popular desktop Web browser. We strive to offer local versions of our browser whenever possible and are committed to making it easier for Indonesians to surf the Web; we have, therefore, tailored our products to meet their feedback and needs,” said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. “With only 10 percent of Indonesians accessing the Web from a desktop computer, we see enormous growth potential not only on desktop but on other devices as well. We plan to continue focusing on the Indonesian market and look forward to the day when all citizens are online.”
During the four-day festival, exhibitors visiting Opera’s stand (Hall B, 22C) can check out their favorite Web sites on Nintendo’s DSi and Wii game consoles. Other Opera-powered devices on display include Samsung Omnia, HTC HD, Sony Ericsson W8 and the ARCHOS 5.
