Unruly Media is a "viral ad network". Online viral ad networks attempt to seed videos, flash applications, etc. in the hope that they will "go viral", i.e. be picked up and forwarded hither thither and yon on the Internet. Publishers are generally paid per partially completed view of a video or Flash app.

From the website:

Unruly Media is a viral video seeding specialist that works with global brands and agencies to harness and engage the social web.

Our global video seeding network helps brands use great content to connect with hard-to-reach audiences in highly engaged environments on influential blogs, cult sites and mainstream entertainment destinations.

By inviting the right people into the conversation and making peer recommendation frictionless, we enable the best executions to spread rapidly across massive audiences on popular video sharing and social network sites.

We provide a comprehensive video seeding service, encompassing the planning, execution and evaluation of viral campaigns, and offer advanced analytics around video delivery, viral dissemination and viewer engagement.

In our experience, viral videos generally pay between $0.05 and $0.30 per view - not a whole lot, in other words. Occasionally an advertiser may offer an insertion bonus on top of the pay-per-view rate.

Viral ads can be a good complement to a high-traffic destination where the primary target is site visitors who are wasting time.

Unruly Media claims to have global reach, but most ads appear to be UK-targeted, with the majority of the remainder targeting other countries in Europe and a couple from the US sprinkled in for good measure. Worth a look, at least.
