F-Secure Keeps Important Private Files Safe
F-Secure launches a new unlimited backup solution for pictures, music and all other digital content - an important addition to its range of consumer IT security solutions
Helsinki, Finland, May 14, 2009 -- Photos of a baby’s first smile, a unique music collection, a major project that took months to complete – these are just some of the precious files that are often stored only on our computers. As more and more of our lives are in digital format, the danger of losing valuable, sometimes irreplaceable files is a major emotional and practical concern. Everyone knows the importance of making backups of the content on a computer but few people actually do this on a consistent basis.
F-Secure Online Backup takes away the worry of losing valuable files. It works automatically in the background whenever you are connected to the Internet, securely backing up all your pictures, music, documents and other digital content. There is no limit on the amount of data you can backup from the hard disk of your computer. In the backup your personal files are copied from your computer over the Internet into highly secure data centers. You can restore the content to the same computer or a different computer and a web portal allows you to view your backed up content from any PC with an Internet connection.
Antti Reijonen, VP for Consumer Business and Marketing at F-secure says, “F-Secure Online Backup responds to the emotional concern people have about losing the important files on their computer. Surprisingly very few people today make sufficient backups of their content. Online backup automates this task, so there is no need to spend time burning CDs or setting up external storage devices, which has kept people from making backups.”
Survey shows people are concerned about keeping digital material safe
F-Secure’s recent survey* reveals that the fear of losing valuable documents is widely shared. Although 42% of the respondents in the survey said they had lost valuable content, most only backed up their files a couple of times a year, even less frequently or never. Almost 40 % of respondents in North America never made backups, making them the least likely to backup digital content.
Just 8% of all the respondents made daily backups, while in Europe 24% of the respondents made monthly backups. The respondents were most concerned with losing photographs of family and friends, followed by personal identity files. Many wanted to see their digital content kept safe for future generations.
The survey also showed that the computer hard drive remains the most popular way of storing files like photos, music, movies and documents.
F-Secure Online Backup is now made available through the F-Secure eStore and retailers in Europe and North America, and has been available through selected Internet Service Provider partners since autumn 2008.
