June 22, 2009 -- In June 2009, Care2 passed a series of tests to become a certified green business. This was an important milestone for Care2, and signifies its effort to walk the talk, as much of the website is dedicated to environmental activism.

The Green Business Program offers a process to certify that a business is meeting criteria for energy conservation, water conservation, waste reduction, and pollution prevention. To be certified "Green," participating businesses must be in compliance with all state and local regulations and meet program standards for conserving resources, preventing pollution and minimizing waste.

Care2’s green initiatives around the office are numerous, and include:
• A water filter system to eliminate the need for bottled water
• The use of plates, mugs, glasses, and cutlery (as opposed to disposable)
• Low flow faucets and efficient lighting systems
• Limited printing of documentation (and use of recycled paper when printing is required)
• Use of low emission carpet tiles and low VOC paint
• A number of employees walk, bike or use public transit as commute options

As a Green Business, Care2 not only conserves around the office, but aims to inspire its employees, customers, and website members to make a difference through resource conservation.
